Creating A Message
Once you have established program goals, objectives and target
audiences, the next step is to create a message. The message should
prompt action that will achieve the objectives of the program and
it should be repeatedly used and visible to your target
audience.
When developing a message, go ahead and build on existing
themes, mascots and materials from other programs. You should also
ensure the message contains some of the following key elements:
- A positive content and tone
- Easy to understand terms
- A local view
- Motivations for action (such as clean
waterways, wildlife protection, health, safety, and environmental
quality)
- Actions to take
- Contact information (such as telephone
numbers, address or Internet web sites)
If you have more than one audience, different messages may need
to be developed to effectively reach and educate each audience.
